Participant Support

The program will be based in La Serena, Chile on the NOIRLab campus. For each of the six students we expect to support each year, NOIRLab will provide a weekly stipend of USD 650 and housing in La Serena for the duration of the program, and will cover the cost of travel to/from Chile.

Important Dates (anticipated)

Please note that to participate in the program you will need to hold a valid passport in advance of the program start date. 

How to Apply

This program is open to undergraduate students who are US citizens, US nationals, or US permanent residents. Interested students are invited to apply by submitting these materials by the application deadline of 23 September 2024: 

Part 1: Visit the application portal where you can

• Complete the application form
• Upload your statement describing your interest in this program (pdf format)
• Upload a copy of your unofficial undergraduate transcript (e.g., one that you can download for free from your educational institution).

Part 2: Arrange to have 2 letters of recommendation sent by your recommenders directly to us using this google form. Consider requesting letters from people familiar with your educational background, research experience (if any), work experience, and career goals, e.g., a teacher, professor, mentor, etc. If your letter writers have questions or difficulties uploading their letter, please have them contact us at reuchile@noirlab.edu.

Application Form: Provide your contact information and other details (e.g., educational affiliation, demographic information).

Statement of Interest (pdf format): Describe your educational background and goals, the research subjects or activities that interest you, and why this program is of interest to you. Please also describe the experience and skills you may have that are related to this program. These may include work experience and skills (e.g., programming, although this is not required), academic experiences and skills, previous research experience or equivalent experience working on complex projects as a member of a team. Please describe your level of independence in these situations.
