IGRINS-2 is ready for science!
February 28, 2025
The Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrograph 2 (IGRINS-2), the recently commissioned facility instrument at Gemini North, has been successfully re-installed on the telescope. Software updates to improve the overall efficiency of the observations have been tested by the IGRINS-2 team. At the beginning of February the first photons in typical queue mode were collected.
IGRINS-2 is built by a collaboration between Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) and the International Gemini Observatory. It is now ready to investigate new science questions with its high resolution and throughput. Within the current agreement, PIs are expected to be able to download reduced data directly from the archive within four weeks from observations.
