PypeIt Workshop 12 September 2024

On behalf of the PypeIt data reduction pipeline (DRP) project, we invite you to attend a Zoom Workshop to introduce you to PypeIt, solicit your input, and/or help you install and run PypeIt on your data.

The workshop will take place during the upcoming Keck Science Meeting (KSM), at 4–5:30 p.m. PDT on Thursday 12 September 2024. Those attending in person will need to register for the KSM. As always, however, all remote attendees are welcome via this Zoom link.

Agenda (tentative)

  • Brief intro, Kyle Westfall [10 min]
  • Setup GUI demo, Dusty Reichwein [15 min]
  • Parallel sessions via Zoom break-out rooms [1 hour]
    • For beginners: Install, setup, and run basic reductions, Kyle Westfall
    • Coadding and extraction of 2D images, Debora Pelliccia
    • More extensive setup GUI tutorial, Dusty Reichwein
    • LDT demo and troubleshooting, Timothy Ellsworth-Bowers

At present, PypeIt has been run on the following instruments (successfully):

  • Keck: DEIMOS, LRIS, MOSFIRE, NIRES, ESI, HIRES, KCWI, NIRSPEC
  • Gemini: GMOS (including MOS), GNIRS, FLAMINGOS
  • VLT: FORS2 (including MOS), X-Shooter, Sinfoni
  • LBT: MODS, Luci
  • MMT: Binospec, blue channel, MMIRS
  • And many more… See Spectrographs

Prerequisites for the Workshop if you just wish to listen:

Prerequisites for the Workshop if you wish to play along:

  • Install PypeIt v1.16.0 (may be updated to 1.17.0 by the workshop)
  • Put a set of data -- including all calibrations -- in a folder on your computer
    • Make sure you know which frame is which (e.g. arc, flat, etc.)
  • Or grab a DevSuite dataset here
  • Run through the first 2 steps of the Cookbook, i.e. through Setups
  • Please join the Pypeit Users Slack (Invitation Link), and specifically join the #workshop-2024b channel.
