Gemini Fast Turnaround: December 2022

December 27, 2022

Gemini South is accepting proposals for the Fast Turnaround (FT) program. The upcoming deadline is 12:00 (noon) Hawai‘i Standard Time on 31 December 2022. Successful proposals from this cycle will be active in the queue from 1 February to 30 April 2023.  Gemini South will not have a telescope maintenance shutdown in April as originally planned. Observations at Gemini South during April 2022 may now be proposed for this FT call — this is an amendment to the Call for Proposals released on 09 December 2022. Please see the FT Call for Proposals for more information.

Make sure to check the semester schedule for Gemini South and the detailed instrument availability for this period. If you have questions, please send them to the FT team at fast.turnaround@gemini.edu.

The FT program has been used to conduct pilot studies, complete observations for existing data sets, follow up newly discovered objects, and much more. Proposers will have two weeks to peer review up to eight other proposals and results will be announced around the 21st of the month. Data for successful programs can be obtained as early as a week or two after that. The FT program uses a dual anonymous review process (DARP). Proposals must use the FT DARP proposal templates and be anonymized as described in the Call for Proposals. Proposals that fail to do so will be subject to directorate review and may be removed from consideration.
