8 December 2022

We are pleased to announce the monthly Call for Proposals for the Gemini Fast Turnaround (FT) Program. The upcoming deadline is 12:00 (noon) Hawai‘i Standard Time on 31 December 2022. Proposals are being accepted for Gemini South only. For successful proposals this cycle, observations will be active in the queue February–March 2023. Note that FT proposals are usually accepted for observations in a three month window, but Gemini South’s annual telescope maintenance shutdown is planned for April.

We expect GMOS-S and F2 to be available for most of the cycle while IGRINS and Zorro are expected to be available for at least part of the cycle. The Gemini South 2023A semester instrument schedule for this period will be posted around December 15. In the meantime, if you have questions, please send them to the FT team at fast.turnaround@gemini.edu.

The FT program has been used to conduct pilot studies, complete observations for existing data sets, follow up newly discovered objects, and much more. Proposers will have two weeks to peer review up to eight other proposals. Results will be announced around the 21st of the month following the deadline. Data for successful programs can be obtained as early as one to two weeks after that. The FT program uses a dual anonymous review process (DARP). Proposals must use the FT DARP proposal templates and be anonymized as described in the Call for Proposals.
