NSF's NOIRLab and US-ELTP Joint Open House

Tuesday 9 January 2024 at 6:45 pm to 8:45 pm

NSF’s NOIRLab and the US Extremely Large Telescope Program (US-ELTP) invite you to our joint Open House! Together, we represent most of the present and future US public access, optical and infrared major ground-based observatories.

US-ELTP is a joint endeavor of NOIRLab and the organizations building the Giant Magellan Telescope and the Thirty Meter Telescope.

NOIRLab includes world-leading facilities: the International Gemini Observatory, Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO), Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO), the Community Science & Data Center (CSDC) and the operations of Vera C. Rubin Observatory.

We will have two presentations separated by a short interlude to enjoy complimentary light fare and drinks and have conversations with participants and presenters.

(1) In the first session, you'll hear from scientists from NOIRLab, the Giant Magellan Telescope, and the Thirty Meter Telescope about the objectives of the US-ELTP and the status of the observatories. We look forward to talking with you about this exciting project that will offer tremendous opportunities for scientific progress in the coming decades and beyond.

(2) In the second session, you’ll get brief updates on NOIRLab activities and then join discussions on topics of interest to the US ground-based, nighttime optical and infrared astronomy community.

Everyone is welcome!
