Gemini Large and Long Programs: 2025
February 28, 2025
The Gemini Large and Long Program (LLP) is offered annually and is open for the submission of proposals for semesters starting in 2025B with a deadline of 31 March 2025 (11:59 pm HST). Letters of Intent were due on 14 February, but proposals will still be accepted without a corresponding letter. LLPs are Principal Investigator-defined and -driven programs that, as a guideline, either require significantly more time than a partner typically approves for a single program, extend over two to six semesters, or both. In other words, proposals do not have to be Large AND Long, but rather Large, Long, or both. The participating partners (only U.S. and Canada at this time) will make up to 20% of their time at each telescope available for LLPs over the next six semesters. A separate time allocation committee (TAC) for LLPs will be convened, and while there is no restriction on Co-Investigtors, PIs must be from institutions in either participating country.
The full 2025 call can be found here, which includes the estimated time available as well as the instrument availability. Note that for this call there will be no Band 1 time offered for Gemini South. This particularly impacts rapid target of opportunity (ToO) programs and programs needing tight constraints, such as precise timing windows or extremely good conditions (i.e. IQ20 or only dark time). If there are further questions not addressed on the website please send an email to largeprograms@gemini.edu.
