In Chile, students are required to perform an internship to receive their degrees. Typically these occur during the summer (January onward). Historically, SOAR, and the rest of AURA in Chile, have hosted interns who can benefit from working at the observatory, which provides an opportunity to perfect technical skills in a quasi-industrial environment.

In 2018, we are hosting 3 interns:

Joaquín Contador is a mechanical engineering intern. He is helping with a variety of design and fabrication tasks, such as installation of the STELES echelle spectrograph.

Ignacio Roco is an electronics technician intern. He is working with SOAR's two electronics technicians to provide additional support during vacation periods, and to learn about typical electronics support procedures.
