Gemini Strategic Planning — Request for Community Input

August 28, 2024

Gemini Observatory will continue to collect Community Brief Recommendations for the Gemini Strategic Plan until 13 September 2024. A template for the recommendations can be found here. Please send your recommendations to gemini-community-papers@noirlab.edu.

We welcome concise reports, up to two pages including figures, that address what areas of growth and development Gemini should consider. These reports may provide suggestions on the critical capabilities that should be available in the next generation of Gemini instruments, synergies with other space- and ground-based missions that should be prioritized, and technical capabilities that need to be optimized to guarantee the success of these initiatives.

Additionally we are interested in recommendations for data and/or archive improvements that would increase Gemini’s scientific return in the 2030s, as well as ideas on how Gemini can pave the way for the US-ELTP and the Habitable Worlds Observatory

Finally Gemini North will upgrade the MOAO/GLAO system in preparation for GIRMOS. We are interested in hearing what other instruments Gemini could develop to take advantage of the new AO capabilities, as well as what AO upgrades could be implemented at Gemini South.
