2023 CHARA Science Meeting and Imaging Workshop

February 15, 2023

Georgia State University will host the 2023 CHARA Science Meeting in Atlanta, GA from 13 to 15 March 2023. The meeting will bring together the CHARA community to discuss recent science results and technical developments at the CHARA Array, including work on the next generation of beam combiners and progress towards adding a mobile seventh telescope to the array. We welcome participation from those in the CHARA consortium and the growing community of open-access observers.

Following the Science Meeting, we will hold an Imaging and Modeling Workshop in Atlanta, GA on 16–17 March 2023. The workshop will provide an introduction to interferometry, a summary of observing strategies, and an overview of modeling and imaging software packages. There will be interactive work sessions in which participants learn how to use different software tools and analyze data to get hands-on experience with the modeling/imaging software. This hands-on workshop will provide instruction, demonstrations, and advice to students and other scientists on getting the most from their observations with the CHARA Array. Participants are encouraged to bring their own interferometric data to work on, but there will be sample data sets on a variety of different types of objects available to use during the workshop.

Hybrid format: Participants can attend and deliver talks either in person in the lecture hall or online via webex.

Registration will be open until 3 March 2023.

More information on the venue, registration, and submitting talks/posters is available on the meeting website.

GSU and CHARA continue to offer community access to the CHARA optical interferometry array via the NOIRLab TAC. In 2023 up to 50 nights will be available, thanks to partial support from an NSF MSIP award to GSU. Proposals will be due the last day of March for the fall semester of 2023 — watch the Call for Proposals.
