Scott Dahm Appointed New Gemini Deputy Director

Scott Dahm will be joining the International Gemini Observatory and NOIRLab as the new Gemini Deputy Director on 9 January 2023. 

Dahm is currently the acting director and chief scientist at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. He received his PhD in astronomy, focusing on the study of young stellar clusters, from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa in 2005.

He subsequently worked as an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech and as a staff astronomer at the W. M. Keck Observatory. Dahm also is a former US Naval Officer, retiring from the US Navy Reserve in 2020. Dahm will be attending the AAS meeting in Seattle during his first week as Gemini Deputy Director. He and his family will be relocating to Tucson, Arizona, later in 2023 and will make frequent visits to Hawai‘i and Chile. “I am excited to join the extraordinary team of professionals at Gemini/NOIRLab who are working to ensure that Gemini Observatory remains at the forefront of astronomical research,” said Dahm.
