New Head of Engineering Operations, Gemini North

We are happy to announce that the search for the Head of Engineering Operations at Gemini North has concluded and after an extensive search we are delighted to report that Julien Rousselle took up the position on 15 April 2024. 

Julien comes to NOIRLab and Gemini North from Subaru Observatory. He holds a Master’s degree in astrophysics and instrumentation from Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse III, and a PhD in astrophysics and instrumentation from IRAP/CESR, Université de Toulouse CNRS. Julien brings a wealth of experience in instrumentation from his previous positions at UCLA, where he worked on the design, optimization and construction of several opto-mechanical systems for the Schwarzschild-Couder telescope as part of the Cherenkov Telescope Array. Since 2017, he has been working at NAOJ, based in Hilo as an instrumentation engineer and most recently as project director for the Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) at the Subaru Telescope, where he led a team of international experts integrating and commissioning the instrument, in close collaboration with their international partners.
