NOIRLab at the 241st AAS Meeting

December 16, 2022

The 241st meeting of the American Astronomical Society (AAS 241) will take place from 8 to 12 January 2023 in Seattle, Washington, and we hope to see you there!

There will be opportunities to meet with NOIRLab staff in the exhibit hall at the NOIRLab booth, which will be inside the NSF Pavilion, throughout the meeting. If you have data, an active observing program, or even a vague idea for a project, visit the booth any time during exhibit hall hours to chat with our staff. Appointments for Gemini-specific questions can also be made via email to david.jones@noirlab.edu or at the booth during the meeting. You can also learn more about NOIRLab in our Town Hall on Wednesday 11 January at 12:45 p.m. PST.

On a more social note, please join us on Wednesday evening 11 January at 6:30 p.m. at the Joint Open House for NOIRLab and the US Extremely Large Telescope Program (US-ELTP). Meet staff from NOIRLab, the Giant Magellan Telescope, and the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT), and hear the latest news about our joint endeavor to provide all US astronomers with access to a unique, bi-hemispheric system of next-generation giant telescopes. Complimentary refreshments will be provided, sponsored by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

And don’t miss the opportunity to meet with Giant Magellan Telescope, TMT, and NOIRLab staff at the US-ELTP booth in the Exhibit Hall. We’re there to hear your scientific priorities for the TMT and the Giant Magellan Telescope and the end-to-end user services that NOIRLab will provide for observers and archival researchers.

There will also be sessions on time-domain astronomy at NOIRLab (Monday 9 January, 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.), DRAGONS for data reduction at the Gemini Observatory (Monday 9 January, 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.), and the US NGO Splinter Session: The Role of Gemini Observations in the JWST Era (Wednesday 11 January, 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 am). A full listing of NOIRLab events is on this web page

Stop by the booth to pick up and play the Gemini Card Game or get your copy of the new NOIRLab Capabilities Brochure as well as other items while supplies last. Follow us on social media and join the conversation with the hashtag #aas241.
