Gemini Legacy Imaging Community Poll
In celebration of 25 years since First Light observations with the Gemini Observatory, we are launching a special community poll. By participating in this poll, individual students or entire classrooms can vote on a type of astronomical object that will be imaged by the Gemini North Telescope on Maunakea. This image will be featured in press releases and printed materials in the coming years. Examples of previous images taken by the Gemini Observatory can be found here: Legacy Imaging Program.
To participate in the contest learn about the four types of astronomical objects listed below:
- Star Forming Nebulae
- Star Clusters
- Planetary Nebulae
- Spiral Galaxies
And vote on which type of astronomical object should be imaged in the linked survey. This poll will close on March 14, 2025.
To assist with the learning process we have prepared various educational resources including a Google Slides presentation which goes over what each type of astronomical objects are, why they are interesting, and examples of the types of astronomical objects.
Embedded within the slides are links to lessons, crafts, and activities that relate to the astronomical objects to facilitate learning in fun and engaging ways.
All of these resources can be found through the google drive link below.
