Rubin Mass Move

The yellow cross-shaped structure in this photo is the "M1M3 mass surrogate," which approximates the mass of Rubin's primary mirror and its steel support structure. In April 2023 the mass surrogate was removed from the telescope mount and transported to a lower level of the observatory, using the vertical platform lift.
