The southwestern end of the Kitt Peak summit ridge, with the WIYN 3.5-meter telescope in the foreground. Continuing along the ridge, we pass the (unused) 0.4-meter dome, the WIYN 0.9-meter telescope, the KPNO 2.1-meter telescope with the tower of the Coude feed on the right, the triangular McMath Pierce solar facility (with the large dark entrance of the tunnel access visible just below ground level at the right), and the tower of the Synoptic Optical Long-term Investigations of the Sun (SOLIS) experiment, with its accompanying three lightning protection pillars. Visible just off the road on the right edge is the Crossley solar telescope, equipped with a video camera and a hydrogen-alpha filter for continuous monitoring of the Sun's disk.
