After decades of observations of the atmospheres of the gas giant planets in our solar system with ground-based telescopes and dedicated space missions, we know that they are dynamic places characterized by the presence of zonal jet streams. Two common phenomena associated with these jets are waves and vortices. There are still many questions to be answered about the nature of these phenomena which are also key to understanding the observations of exoplanet atmospheres. In this talk I will present results from two different projects. First, I will show results from wind measurements on Jupiter using a Doppler image velocimeter. Next, I will show results pertaining to the life cycle of spots in Neptune’s atmosphere.
