Magellanic Clouds Over CTIO

The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (fuzzy patches of white above the center of the frame) are easy to spot in this timelapse of Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO). These 'clouds', which are only visible in the southern hemisphere, are actually dwarf galaxies that are neighbors of our own Milky Way. Shown in this timelapse are two of CTIO's telescopes: the Víctor M. Blanco 4-meter Telescope (left) and the SMARTS 1.5-meter Telescope (right).
