GHOST Fiber Optics
The blue box is the fiber optic "shaker" for the Gemini High Resolution Optical SpecTrograph (GHOST) at Gemini South on Cerro Pachón. This agitates the fiber optics to improve photon transmission from the cassegrain unit to the spectrograph.
