Rubin StarTracker Cameras

The NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory StarTracker cameras are two small cameras mounted on the outside of the Telescope Mount Assembly (TMA). The observing team takes images of the sky with these cameras and uses astrometry software to determine where in the sky the telescope is pointing. This photo shows where the cameras are mounted on the TMA.
