NGC 1300 in Eridanus

NGC1300, an almost face-on barred spiral galaxy of type SBbc in the constellation Eridanus, is about 46 million light-years away and about 85000 light-years across. This true-color picture was created from fifteen images taken in the BVR pass-bands at the Kitt Peak National Observatory's 2.1-meter telescope, during the night of December 24th 2000 (yes, Christmas Eve)
