NGC 6962
Based on an estimated distance of 180 million light years away, NGC 6962 is an intrinsically large galaxy. Many other galaxies punctuate the field of the group; but NGC 6962 is by far the most prominent. In 2002 a supernova explosion took place in one the outer arms of this galaxy. The event added some excitement to the otherwise relatively dim and smooth arms shown here.
