M89, NGC 4552

An elliptical galaxy of type E0 in the constellation Virgo, M89 is one of the many members of the Virgo Cluster. Deep, long exposures show much larger structure apparently enveloping the galaxy, which may be part of the larger Virgo cluster itself, instead of being directly related to M89. KPNO 0.9-meter CCD image, April 1995. The Virgo cluster also includes Messier galaxies M49, M58, M59, M60, M61, M84, M85, M86, M87, M88, M90, M91, M98, M99, and M100.
