Galaxies from the Survey for Ionization in Neutral Gas Galaxies

A montage of six representative galaxies from the SINGG (Survey for Ionization in Neutral Gas Galaxies) sample. Each image shows the continuum-subtracted hydrogen emission (seen largely as bright knots over the galaxy disk) superposed on the R-band image (the smooth, underlying component). Note the diversity of the amount and location of star formation amongst different galaxies. See the September 2003 NOAO Newsletter (currently only available in PDF format).
