Infrared "true color" image of IRAS 17138-1017

Infrared "true color" image of IRAS 17138-1017 made by combining J, H, and K-band images from HST/NICMOS in 2004, with similar images from Gemini's Near-Infrared Imager (NIRI) with the adaptive optics system, Altair, on Gemini North in June 2008. Note the extremely red color of SN 2008cs due to the large amount of dust along our line of sight.
