UH 88 — University of Hawai‘i 2.2-Meter Telescope.
The University of Hawai‘i 2.2-meter telescope is located near the summit of Maunakea, on the Island of Hawai‘i. The 2.2-meter telescope was the first large telescope constructed on Maunakea. It went into operation in 1970, and its early successes showed the excellent image quality and observing conditions at Maunakea. This is located next to the Gemini North facility, which is half of the International Gemini Observatory, operated by NSF NOIRLab.
