A Naked 84 inch Mirror
The 84 inch (1.3-meter) mirror that eventually became part of the KPNO 2.1-meter Telescope is shown here in this shot from April 1961. The mirror is unfinished and lacks a metal reflective coating, so its ribbed cellular structure - which helps keep the mirror lightweight and acclimated to ambient temperatures - is visible here.
