Making Space for Gemini North
Near the summit of Maunakea in Hawai‘i, a construction crew is busy preparing the site where the Gemini North telescope will eventually rise. The 24-inch telescope in the foreground was removed to make space for Gemini North, a gigantic 8-meter telescope. This image was taken in 1995.
