DRAGONS Data Reduction Tutorials are now available as Jupyter Notebooks

August 28, 2024

The US NGO is offering DRAGONS data reduction tutorials as Jupyter Notebooks! These are now available on Astro Data Lab's Science Platform (create a free account here and navigate to /notebooks-latest/04_HowTos/DataReduction/DRAGONS). All seven tutorials use the DRAGONS API and will walk you through downloading datasets, reducing the data, and displaying the finished product for Flamingos 2, GMOS, GNIRS, GSAOI, and NIRI data.

Six notebooks will have you reduce imaging data from astronomical sources such as a starry field, brown dwarf, galaxies, white dwarf, gamma-ray burst, and a supernova. The seventh notebook demonstrates how to reduce GMOS long-slit spectroscopic data. Each tutorial takes you step by step through downloading the raw science and calibration data, creating the appropriate lists that DRAGONS requires, and demonstrating how the different commands should be called to complete the reduction.

Each notebook is compatible with the latest version of DRAGONS (v3.2.1). They are also available as standalone files that can be downloaded through the links below.

User feedback is greatly appreciated as we continue to develop new products for the community. Please reach out to us at usngo@noirlab.edu.
