GMOS-N B600 PIs are encouraged to use B480 grating

June 27, 2023

Since the GMOS-N B600 grating has degraded significantly, we encourage all PIs of GMOS-N B600 programs to use the new B480 grating instead of B600. The B480 grating had already been offered for GMOS-S and is now also available for GMOS-N. Further details on the recommendation to use B480 instead of B600 and updated throughput plots can be found in this announcement.

The templates for 2023B GMOS-N B600 programs have provisionally been changed to B480. The B480 grating is similar to B600, with a wider wavelength coverage at slightly reduced spectral resolution. Please note that the B600 degradation only applies to GMOS-N.
