Gemini Fast Turnaround: Sept 2022

Gemini North and South are accepting proposals for the Fast Turnaround (FT) program. The upcoming deadline is 12:00 (noon) Hawai‘i Standard Time on 30 Sep 2022. Please note the change in deadline time compared to earlier FT cycles. Successful proposals from this cycle will be active in the queue from 1 November to 31 January 2023. 

Make sure to check the 22B telescope semester schedules for Gemini North and South and the detailed instrument availability for this period. Flamingos 2 MOS is only offered every other FT cycle and is offered this cycle at GS. Please see the FT Call for Proposals for more details including RA restrictions for this mode. 

The FT program has been used to conduct pilot studies, complete observations for existing data sets, follow up newly discovered objects, and much more. Proposers will have two weeks to peer review up to eight other proposals and results will be announced around the 21st of the month. Data for successful programs can be obtained as early as a week or two after that. The FT program uses a dual anonymous review process (DARP). Proposals must use the FT DARP proposal templates and be anonymized as described in the Call for Proposals. Proposals that fail to do so will be subject to directorate review and may be removed from consideration.
