Gemini COVID-19 Update
October 22, 2021
Operations at Gemini North continue unchanged, while the case counts and hospitalizations resulting from the COVID surge that began in July subside. If the numbers continue to improve at the current rate we may be able to revert to a more normal summit schedule some time in November. Night operations have resumed after the extended engineering shutdown and are being carried out as they were before, and daytime attendance at the Hilo base continues to average between 20 and 30 staff members with the majority continuing to work from home.
In recognition of the present low case counts in Chile, on 15 October 2021 AURA began an optional return-to-office for staff who have been working at home throughout the pandemic. Night operations will continue unchanged, as will daytime work on Cerro Pachón.
