Call for Community “Science Pitches” for Roman–Rubin Synergies

August 18, 2021

The AURA Roman Rubin Synergy Working Group has been charged by the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) and NOIRLab Directors to identify frontier science questions that can be addressed by exploiting synergies between the two new flagship survey facilities coming this decade: The Vera C. Rubin Observatory (Rubin) and the NASA Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (Roman).

We are soliciting input from the community for bold and creative ideas in the form of a brief (1-2 paragraph) “science pitch” for Roman–Rubin synergies in the area of General Astrophysics, outside the well-explored area of Dark Energy. “Pitches” will be cited in the final set of recommendations produced by the Working Group, and authors will be invited to participate in a community workshop to be held by the Working Group in January 2022 to present the final white paper submitted to the STScI and NOIRLab Directors.

The deadline for submission is 31 August 2021. For more information on the Working Group, the Roman and Rubin facilities, and some “science pitch” examples, please visit the STScl web page.
