IGRINS-2 Instrument Arrives at Gemini North
October 6, 2023
IGRINS-2, a new facility instrument for Gemini North, arrived at Maunakea in Hawai‘i on 15 September 2023. IGRINS-2 achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing the Pre-shipment Readiness Review conducted on 16 August 2023, followed by the Post-shipment Acceptance Test on 26 September 2023.
IGRINS-2 is a high-resolution near-infrared spectrograph built by Korea Astronomy Science Space Institute (KASI) in collaboration with the dedicated Gemini staff. It is an upgraded version of the original IGRINS which has been a popular visiting instrument over the last three years at Gemini South. IGRINS-2 will extend its reach to the northern skies delivering an exciting new capability to the Gemini User Community later in 2024.
IGRINS-2 was installed on Gemini North last week and news about first light will be coming soon!
