Welcome Gemini Interim Deputy Director

The International Gemini Observatory is pleased to welcome back René Rutten as Interim Deputy Director. René most recently served at Gemini South as the Head of Science Operations and Associate Director for Chile operations, and has previously been Interim Deputy Director.

René worked for more than a decade as the Director of the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes on the Canary Island of La Palma, and he was later responsible for the first years of science operations at the 10.4-meter Gran Telescopio Canarias. René's research interests are focused on magnetic fields in solar-type stars and the study of accretion disks in cataclysmic variables.
