GIRMOS integral field spectrograph (IFU)

Integral field spectrographs produce multi-dimensional datasets with both spatial and spectral information (top panel). The GIRMOS instrument on Gemini (center and lower) will observe multiple targets, such as high redshift galaxies, at once — all at the diffraction limit of the Gemini 8.1-meter aperture.
