Star-formation in the southern outer Galaxy
The outer Galaxy beyond the Outer Arm provides an excellent opportunity to study star formation in an environment significantly different from the solar neighborhood, such as low metallicity and gas density. Therefore, searching star-forming regions in the outer Galaxy is crucial for investigating star-formation properties in such primordial environments. Especially the southern outer Galaxy is a very important area because we can use ALMA. Combining ALMA and large infrared telescopes, such as Gemini-South, VLT, and JWST will enable us to study star formation from molecular clouds to YSOs comprehensively. Therefore, we performed a new survey of star-forming regions in the southern galactic warp region with small radio and infrared telescopes: NANTEN, ASTE, and IRSF, based on the method in Izumi et al. (2017) and detected about 10 new star-forming regions. We performed follow-up observations with Gemini-South and ALMA toward 4 and 1 star-forming regions, respectively. In addition to the survey results, I’ll discuss the properties of star-forming regions in the southern outer Galaxy based on these observations.
